Energy is what gets you through the actions of every day life. Some people are high energy, others are low energy, and some are frequently fatigued and/or living with visible or invisible illness. Energy levels can directly impact how active you are and how many tasks you can accomplish. The spoon theory is a disability metaphor that explains how you start each day with a handful of spoons representing your energy, and each action you take uses a spoon. Once you are out of spoons you need to recharge before you can do anything else. Some days you may have enough spoons to do every- thing you want, but others you only have enough to get you through morning routine. Some days you may have no spoons at all. Practising true self care is knowing when you are running on empty and allowing yourself to rest and gather your spoons.
