Human beings have many needs: physiological (food, water, shelter, oxygen, sleep), safety (familiarity, security of health, work, money), belonging (love, affection, trust, acceptance), and self esteem (self respect, feelings of competency.) Needs are things you can’t live without and are not the same as wishes, wants, or shoulds; they are required for you to be at your best and thriving. Identifying your needs is the first step to having your needs met. Think about what you need beyond basic survival (ie to be heard, to be liked, to be useful etc) and consider how you can have those needs met.You may need to look within yourself or ask for help from others, though the more needs you can satisfy on your own the better. What are your top three most important needs? Do you feel they are being met?
